Croatia – Introduction
Yachting paradise
The ''sea of a thousand islands'' offers a range of 47 marinas
with some 12,500 berths in the sea and 7,200 dry berths. Larger
marinas are equipped with technical services, cranes and hoists and
fuel pumps, as well as with shopping and catering facilities.
Majority marinas operate a yacht hire service and also organize
schools of sailing.
Get your sun-tan the easy way
Weather conditions are excellent from June through September
(with temperatures often above 20 °C, even in May and
October).
Average temperature in June: 25 °C
Average temperature in July: 27 °C
Average temperature in August: 27.5 °C, while sea temperature can
reach 25 °C
Average temperature in September: 25 °C
There is always room
It may be that elsewhere in the Mediterranean resorts are
saturated, but in Croatia it is always possible to find a secluded
cove - even in August. Croatia is not a mass tourism destination.
In some resorts local boat owners will take their guests and ferry
them to some tiny islet in the morning, and then collect them in
the evening.
Good communications: by air, sea and rail
The main reason for the rise in the number of visitors to
Croatia lies in the country's good air links with cities throughout
Europe provided by Croatia Airlines. Most of the major airlines
also fly to Croatia. International sea routes connect Croatia with
Italy, while there are rail links with Slovenia, Hungary, Italy,
Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, France, Germany, Bosnia and
Herzegovina and Yugoslavia.
Easy access and available transport
Even if you have opted for an island holiday, a ferryboat or
hydrofoil will take less than 2 hours to get you to your
destination - and en route you could possibly enjoy the company of
dolphins, or perhaps count how many of the country's 1,185 islands,
reefs or rocks you have seen!
The choice is wide
Porec, Rovinj, Opatija, Cres, Krk, Rab and Losinj;
Zadar, Trogir, Split, Primosten, islands of Pag, Brac and Solta,
the Kornati archipelago;
Makarska, Brela, Baska Voda, Tucepi, the islands of Vis, Bisevo and
Hvar;
Dubrovnik, Cavtat and Orebic, the islands of Korcula, Mljet, Lopud
and Sipan...
Treasures to be seen, well within your reach
In numerous churches you can enjoy works by Titian, Tintoretto,
and many other artists.
You can relax in safety
Due to the lowest incidence of street crime in Europe, Croatia
is one of the safest countries in Europe.
Wholly with the trend: sports and gastronomy
Eight national parks and ten nature reserves offer ample
opportunity for all to enjoy a wide variety of landscapes, through
both hiking and mountaineering. In addition to rafting,
hang-gliding, para-gliding and parachuting, it is also possible to
participate in activities like diving, surfing and kayaking. In
cooperation with the ADAC club for motorcyclists and convertibles,
a map has been produced of the most scenic roads and landscape
sites. And let us not forget the wide ranging palette of culinary
pleasures, which includes over 400 types of fish, superb wine
growing areas and fresh foodstuffs picked from land ranked among
the least polluted in Europe.
Croatian cuisine is a happy combination of the Pannonian influence
on the mainland and of the Mediterranean along the coast. Coastal
towns and villages abound with small, local restaurants known as
''konoba'' (or cellars) offering a variety of sea food specialties.
The quality of Croatian wines, red and white, is well known far
beyond our borders, and it is strongly recommended that the visitor
should sample of the autochthonous Croatian wines.
And while there, do not miss out on the local herb brandy, known as
travarica.
Blue Flags fluttering above the beaches and in marinas
The Blue Flag is the symbol of a well preserved, safe and
pleasant environment intended for rest, fun and recreation, and is
awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe.
The Blue Flag has now been flying on Croatian beaches and in
marinas for three consecutive years. Last year 30 beaches and
marinas were awarded the Blue Flag for their quality of service,
cleanliness of their sea and shores, for the level of services and
facilities offered and for appointment of beaches and marinas.
Revitalize your health and strength in Croatia
In one of the eighteen health resorts and spas (thermal spring
resorts) located both throughout the coastal and continental parts
of Croatia, everybody can find something to their taste - be it
simple rest and relaxation, or a true return to a fundamentally
healthy life style. Health resorts complement their traditional
programmes with recreational activities, beauty treatments, and
numerous facilities for children. Thermal and climatic health
resorts provide active support in adopting a life in harmony with
nature, with the environment, and with oneself; they are a
precautionary measure aimed at preventing the appearance of
disease; they stimulate the body to defend itself, while at the
same time offering a pleasing holiday for the entire family.
